The hunting season begins at the end of June, at the beginning of July and lasts till the end of October. The months between June and August are excellent mainly for beast of prey, crocodile and hippo hunting; however, buffalo and antelope hunting are very hard during these months because of the high grass. On the other hand, months between August and October are the best not only for buffalo and antelope hunting but also for leopard and crocodile hunting.
Visas are issued when arriving at the airport for 50 US$ visa issuance fee while you wait. On request we supply airplane tickets at affordable prices. Economy class tickets may be available at the price of approx. 1.000 euros in dependence on the hunting season and reservation dates.
According to the new Gun Law, there is no need to arrange a Firearm
Accompanying Letter. It suffices to fill in a Report on Firearms Export at the
local Firearms Registry not less than 5 days prior to the intended departure
from Slovakia. Do not forget your gun license upon leaving the country, and please
notify the passport control staff that you are exporting a
weapon. Upon return the passport control staff has to be notified of
the weapon import as well.
The firearm has to be packed in a special suitcase; we recommend a hard-sided
one to prevent any damage to the firearm. Under no circumstances can arms and
ammunition be packed together. Ammunition cannot be packed in the unchecked
luggage; pack it in a locked container/luggage with clothing that will be
carried in the plane’s baggage compartment. We recommend you to take approx. a
maximum of 40 cartridges. There is no use of taking more; 2 US$ import
duty is charged per cartridge. Please, remember that the checked
baggage may not exceed 25 kg and hand luggage 5 kg (valuable objects, camera,
cine-camera, etc.). Otherwise you will be asked to pay the excess baggage charge
which varies according to the tariffs of each airline company. Upon your arrival to
Zambia, you have to declare your arm and ammunition directly at the destination
airport. Another very important information: export of semi-automatic
rifles and handguns is forbidden.
While hunting in Africa, it is very important to have a rifle equipped with quality scope. The most ideal ones are those with a variable and high zoom magnification, e.g. 3-9×42 or 3-12×42 objective lens (the working aperture is not important). Since African game are hard-skinned, we recommend to use cartridges with heavy bullets of 12 g and above. For antelope hunting, cartridges of minimum calibres are needed, e.g. 30–06 Springfield, 300 W Magnum, 8×68, etc. Minimally the 375 H-H calibre is required for buffalo, elephant and other beast hunting.
HIRING A WEAPON IN ZAMBIA
We do not suggest hiring a weapon, since the best solution is to have your own weapon and ammunition to perform exceptionally. Naturally, on special occasions there exists a possibility of hiring a weapon right in Zambia. Please inform us about such a request in time before the safari commencement. If any damage is caused to the hired weapon, the hunter must cover against the full amount of damage.
The main camp is located in the south-western part of the
hunting ground, on Luangwa river bank. This site presents optimum conditions for
hunting and fishing. You can find a large canteen and a social room in the centre
of the camp, while walled 3 and 4 room bungalows furnished with shower cabinet
and toilette are located around them. The camp is equipped with an
aggregate, refrigerator, radio transmitter, satellite telephone and first aim
and emergency tools.
Meals prepared over an open fire are the camp’s culinary specialities. Since
hunting starts early in the morning, breakfast is quick and light; coffee, tea
and bakery products are served. However, upon return to the camp abundant
“snacks” will be offered. If you have particular wishes concerning the meals
or special dietary needs, we will be happy to meet your requirements;
nevertheless, please inform us about such an occurence before the safari
commencement. During the 2007 hunting season a provisional camp, i.e. fly camp,
will be set up in the mountains.
In Zambia, summer, i.e. the rainy season, starts at the end of November lasting well into April and May. Daytime temperatures range from 30 to 45°C. This season is not suitable for hunting. The dry period, autumn and winter, lasts from May to November when temperatures range from 20 to 40°C. At night it is getting quite a bit colder, but at 8 or 9 the air warms up again and the weather is pleasant. The temperatures rise considerably between 11 and 14 hours, it is time for lunch, relax or fishing. At evening air cools down again to an enjoyable temperature.
Zambia belongs to the countries with healthy climate with low occurrence of
epidemic disease. However, we would advise you to undergo inoculation against
yellow fever, tetanus, hepatitis, cholera and meningitis (inflammation of
membranes that cover the brain and spinal cord). Malaria is not common for this
region; nevertheless, for prophylactic reasons it is recommended to take
anti-malaria medicaments. You can undergo the necessary inoculation at
the Exotic Diseases Institute in Bratislava, tel. +4212 52962732. See
your health practioner for advice.
It’s in your interest to take out major medical expense insurance abroad. Do
not forget to pack in the medicaments you are taking regularly or basic
medications for common health problems, e.g. cold, constipation, diarrhoea,
headache, etc.)
Our professional hunters are equipped with all the necessary items to provide the
essential first aid.
Light safari clothing in neutral colours (mainly grey, yellowish, khaki, not dark green), long-legged stogy boots or hunting boots with rubber soles. For cold mornings warm jacket or coat, hat or cap and warm trousers. Considering the wide thorn thicket, short trousers are not suitable for hunting in bushland. You will also need sun glasses, lip balm, high-SPF lotion and an insect repellent, etc.
Organisers will strain to ensure client’s safety and take every precaution to safeguard client’s health and life, but cannot accept any responsibility for any damage to the client’s health or property, as long as these are not triggered by them (e.g. ailment, injury during hunting). Therefore we would suggest taking out the following type of insurances:
Because of possible clients’ dissatisfaction with settling insurance claims, we neither provide for or arrange travel insurance nor accept any responsibility for client’s personal choice of an insurance company.
Here in Zambia, strict rules apply to hunting activities and hunters have to abide by them. Therefore, it is vital that hunters follow the professional hunter’s instructions who are guiding them.
If requested in advance, exception to this rule can be made and a hunter may bag more than one specimen of the given species. For instance, the hunter may be requested to supply lion and leopard baits. However, in that event, an additional fee is charged in the amount of 50% of the shooting fee.
